ART Films you MUST watch..
Thursday, January 18, 2007

Directed by Wong Kar Wai and beautifully (and I do mean Beautifully in an absolute sense) shot by Christopher Doyle (seen by many as THE best Director of Photography in the world) these 2 films are a must see for people who love love stories and art films. I have yet to watch In the Mood for Love as I can't find the DVD, but the sequel 2046 is one of THE best and most beautiful film I have seen. With a solid cast of actors, two of which are my favourite Chinese actor/actress(Tony Leung, Zhang ZiYi) the scenes are mesmerising, captivating, reflective and emotionally deep. Zhang Ziyi is pretty much in a class on her own with her subtle emotions permeating through the screen and I have to say one of her best performances ever. Tony Leung is as usual doing what he does best. Amazing acting, amazing cinematography, amazing storytelling, amazing film.

Yep, I can say I was fascinated with 2046, the visuals but also the storytelling. It may be an acquired taste though.
A definite acquired taste. I have managed to track down the first Wong Kar Wai and Christopher Doyle partnership, a movie called Days of Being Wild starring the late Leslie Cheung, Andy Lau, Jackie Cheung, and Carina Lau. I hope to watch, learn and do a little dissecting of the movie. I have yet to track down In the Mood for Love unfortunately.
